Dear Powerhouse,

Yet another school year passes, and the Powerhouse girls still echo in the halls of Silver Sands.  Seems like once a month, a former or current Powerhouse Gymnast is setting records in various athletics, winning the 5 Star Conference, Regionals, and even State! Our Middle School Physical Fitness Records at Silver Sands are dominated by your girls, and the high school weightlifting and track and field programs are also full of your young
ladies!!!  I sadly, went without a Powerhouse girl in my class this year, but I'm recruiting a 6th grader for next year! I sound like an NCAA football program, don't I?  Of all the gymnasts from Powerhouse that have come through my classroom, or my school, I can't think of one that wasn't a standout both in terms of athleticism and academics.  Many of them are legends in Volusia County Schools, and some are setting their sights even higher
moving toward college athletics and even the Olympics!

I've seen so many photos in the media about the Powerhouse girls competing in Track, Weightlifting, and other sports. Last year, I got word that a  former Powerhouse girl was to be in an upcoming issue of Men's Fitness Magazine, pictured with other UF Cheerleaders and Tim Tebow!!  There are former students of both yours and mine that are on scholarship both academic and athletic, at many of the major universities and colleges in the state of Florida.

Athletics is only one of the many wonderful qualities your gymnasts come to Middle School with; brains is often overlooked. I couldn't possibly name another "sport/business" that has sent me so many top notch students.  They've clearly been well above the curve in terms of academic success. I can't even think of a former Powerhouse girl that wasn't AT LEAST, honor roll, throughout 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. Many, if not most of them, were 4.0, and made that task seem easy.

Not to be foreshadowed by their GPA's and biceps, your little gymnasts come with an unmatched amount of confidence, dedication to all that's placed in front of them, and work ethic. I am always amazed at how well adjusted and studious your girls are, especially given the many hours of hard work they put in at the gym.

My daughter is only 7 months old now, but as soon as she's able, she'll be coming to Powerhouse.  My wife and I are counting the days until she'll be learning to tumble with you. We may have even purchased her a few leotards already. I can only dream as a Father, that she'll be as successful both athletically and academically as the numerous Powerhouse girls that you've thankfully sent my way. I've always sung the praise of your Powerhouse girls, and will continue, especially once little Maddie is trying to perform a
Tsukahara as flawless as mine!!!

I don't know your secret with success, but I look forward to my new Powerhouse students each and every year!!!

Thanks for all you do for the kids,
Mr. Kevin Alligood

I am the mother of two daughters, each one completely opposite of the other in almost every way. They have both belonged to Powerhouse Gymnastics for years. They have very different personalities and very different needs. PHG and it’s coaches have managed to keep my children happy, successful and begging for more – for over 7 years now.

We came into this sport very blind… having no background in gymnastics, cheer or dance. However, being very involved parents, we quickly realized soccer and T-ball were not in the cards for us. If you would have told me 13 years ago (when I only was dreaming of being a mom) that I would allow my children to participate in a very competitive-somewhat risky- sport that consumes ~15 hours of their free time, and requires them to flip and turn on a 4 inch balance beam and learn skills that I would never try myself--- I would have told you “No way – not me”.  As most of us know, having children has taught us all how little we knew back then about being parents and how much we are willing to explore to make our children’s dreams come true.

Let me tell you what the sport of gymnastics has taught me (and my daughters) and what it (Powerhouse Gymnastics) has brought to our lives. Yes, gymnastics is a competitive sport but it is also a team sport. Given the right guidance, it builds heart, confidence and self-esteem. My girls have learned that the persistence, commitment and hard work that you give during practice will eventually come back to you in multiple. They have learned to respect their coaches, their teammates and their bodies. From the example set at PHG they have specifically learned that you must always strive to give your own personal best, to never give up, to never stop smiling and although winning does feel good it is not the only thing that makes us WINNERS! I have learned that having a gym that functions like a family is something that is (spoken like a visa card commercial) … truly PRICELESS. The friends, mentors, role models and lessons that my whole family benefit from is a blessing and has given us memories that we will cherish for years beyond their gymnastics careers!!
